MULL and IONA  are islands steeped in history. The landscape is varied and beautiful and of great geological interest, with mountains, forests, lochs, rivers and lovely beaches.

FRACHADIL FARM   is situated in the magical northwest of the island, only a mile away from the white sandy beach of Calgary bay and just over 3 miles from the historic village of Dervaig. Dervaig itself is home to the oldest Inn on Mull, a post office with a very good general store, and a popular local producers market held every fortnight in the Village Hall.

There is an abundance of wildlife in the area and it is possible to see deer, otters, seals, dolphins and a great variety of birds including both the golden  and the white tailed eagles.  There are boat trips that can take you whale  watching, or to the Treshnish Islands where the puffins nest, or of course to Staffa with its wondrous basalt columns and Fingle’s Cave.

Venturing further afield you can explore the rest of Mull.   Twelve miles away is the colourful fishing port of Tobermory, the thriving capital of the island and now also host to the famous Mull Theatre.  Following the coast down the Sound of Mull and on to Lochbuie in the south, there are several castles worth visiting, bearing witness to this once strategically important seaway.

Alternatively take the spectacular winding west coastal route, visit the island of Ulva, or continue on round Loch na Keal and pass under the steep slopes and cliffs of Ben Mor.  Heading on for Fionnphort at the south western tip of the Ross of Mull, there are regular ferry crossings throughout the day to take you over to the sacred Isle of Iona. There is much to do and see and explore whatever your interests.  You can walk for miles, cycle, swim, sail, ride, go fishing or just relax and enjoy the peace and beauty of the islands and the sea.
